Introduction to Metal Structure and Metallography
Date: 16 - 17 July 2013
Tutor(s): Adam Wojcik
Number of participants: 10
This course is a rare opportunity for conservators, research students etc. to get to grips / refresh their minds with the fundamentals of this important area of materials science.
Participants will learn about the structure and properties of metals and alloys in this theoretical course with demonstrations. Subjects covered include the metallic bond, atomic structure, properties of metals (and how these are measured) and how the structures of metals and alloys are examined and interpreted through the microscope.
This course is a useful primer for other courses or research relating to the conservation of metals and the study of both ancient and modern metals and alloys.
