Caring for Arms and Armour

Date: 19 June 2013
Tutor(s): David Edge - Chris Smith
Location: Wallace Collection, London
Number of participants: 18
Price: £150.00

This one day seminar will be held at the Wallace Collection (www.wallacecollection.org/) in central London.

Participants will learn of the particular approaches and methods employed by conservation staff - at this prestigious London collection and at the Tower of London - to preserve a large range of weapons and armour dating from the early Middle Ages until the 20th century in Europe. Weapons discussed will include swords, daggers, percussive arms, staff-weapons, and firearms. Particular attention will be paid to the preservation of surfaces (e.g. blueing, gilding etc.) on weapons and armour, and also of the problems of composite objects, rivets, leather etc.
